how to: eat a pomegranate

One of my favorite fall foods is pomegranate.
It's sweet and tart and crunchy and actually really good for you.

It's also somewhat difficult to get to the part you can eat. But you can save a lot of money
and get fresher fruit by buying pomegranates whole and harvesting the seeds yourself.

Start by slicing the top off of the pomegranate- don't throw it away though- there's seeds in there!

Break open the husk into bits, so that all the seeds are exposed. Use the knife if you need to.

Fill a large bowl with water and set your husk pieces in it to soak for an hour or two.
This will soften the husk and make the seeds easier to remove.

When the husk is soft, just pull the seeds out with your fingers and let them fall in the bowl.

If you have a strainer or a colander, pour the seeds in there and rinse with water.

You'll be left with tasty little jewels of tart deliciousness!
